Your healthy hair checklist for summer

Your healthy hair checklist for summer

Memorial Day is almost here, which means more fun in the sun is in all of our futures. Now’s the time to restock your beach bag with plenty of sunscreen (since your products from last year may have expired, or become less effective after sitting out in the hot sun)—and plan ahead for a healthy-hair summer. To keep your hair looking and feeling its best, protection from the sun, chlorine, and salt water are in order. This starts with your daily haircare regimen—both in the shower and out—and includes a few simple steps that can help shield your strands from damage caused by environmental factors.

#1: Stick with essentials formulated with your hair and skin in mind
Our founder, Harvard-trained dermatologist Dr. Iris Rubin, created SEEN as a way to optimize the health and appearance of both the hair and skin without having to choose one over the other. Our shampoos and conditioners offer all of the hair-hydrating, nourishing, smoothing, and shine-enhancing benefits you’re looking for. SEEN’s formulas are also non-irritating, safe for sensitive skin, and non-comedogenic (which means they won’t clog pores), so you can bare more skin confidently as temperatures rise. SEEN’s haircare essentials also set the stage for a healthy-hair approach that stands up to what summer has in store.

#2: Choose styling products that provide protection from the elements
Whether your goal is sleek and straight or gorgeously defined curls, SEEN has you covered. Our Blow-Out Creme and Curly Creme put you on the path to the results you desire, while providing protection against up to 450 degrees when styling—and create a shield against hair damage caused by UV rays and pollution when spending time outside.

#3: Prep your scalp and hair
It’s important to protect your hair and scalp when spending time outdoors (both in and out of the water). A scalp sunscreen can offer extra protection (especially if you have a defined part, as well as fine or thinning hair). To help minimize the potential damage caused by chlorine and salt water, be sure to wet your hair with clean water before going for a swim.

#4: Do the right thing after swimming
If you take a dip, the first thing you want to do afterwards is rinse your hair with clean water. Since tangles can be an issue if you don’t pull your hair back before swimming, get a detangling brush for your beach bag to minimize pulling and breakage. Of course, be sure to reapply sunscreen to your skin and scalp as well.

#5: Wear a hat
The best way to protect your hair is with a hat, but all chapeaus are not created equal. Although a woven straw hat may look super-cute, it might not offer all that much sun protection for your hair and scalp. Look for a hat with UPF 50, such as Coolibar’s Travel Beach Hat. It has a wide brim for face and neck coverage and an adjustable (and removable) cord so it won’t fly away on a windy day. You can also pack it in a suitcase without worrying about it getting crushed.

#6: Focus on treating your hair with care
Beyond taking extra steps to protect your hair on beach or pool days, try to take it easy on your hair every day. Summer is the ideal time to minimize heat styling and lean into air-drying for a natural, laid-back look. Our styling products help tame frizz, smooth your strands, and nourish your locks even when there isn’t a blow-dryer, flat iron, or curling iron in sight.

We’re here to help you enjoy gorgeous hair all summer, and we’re equally as concerned about the health of your skin. Just remember, non-medicated SEEN has been proven to minimize acne, and our fragrance-free formulas have received the National Eczema Association’s coveted Seal of Acceptance™—which means they are suitable for sensitive and eczema-prone skin.

With SEEN, your hair can look and feel its best all summer long—and so can your skin.
