All about SEEN's Epidermal Rebalancing Technology

It takes time to create a haircare line that is safe for all skin types, including sensitive and acne-prone skin. Just ask our founder, Harvard-trained dermatologist Dr. Iris Rubin. SEEN spent more than four years perfecting the first formulations before they launched—and established the foundation of our Epidermal Rebalancing Technology in the process.

Epidermal Rebalancing Technology may sound complex, but it represents SEEN’s unique approach to looking at haircare as an extension of skincare. This means using skin-friendly ingredients that won’t lead to skin allergies, irritation, or breakouts while providing moisture to the scalp and skin, respecting the skin barrier, and following testing protocols that are often reserved for skincare before products hit shelves.

Because of this multi-faceted approach, SEEN is able to deliver stronger, smoother, healthier-looking hair* and calm, happy skin. Let’s take a closer look…

Clean ingredients
Science comes first at SEEN, and Dr. Iris Rubin has the highest standards when it comes to the ingredients that are used in our products. At the same time, SEEN takes a firm stance against potentially “questionable” ingredients that is rooted in the scientific research that’s available to us today. From avoiding many common allergens and pore-clogging oils to sulfates, parabens, silicones, and more, Dr. Rubin is committed to creating clean, luxurious, effective products that respect the health of the skin, hair, and the body as a whole.

Rooted in science
SEEN is all about proof that backs our products’ claims. Our research has been published in several respected medical journals, and her studies about the effects that haircare products can have on the skin include the residue that rinse-out and leave-in products can leave on the skin and SEEN’s benefits for face and body acne. All SEEN formulas also go through formal third-party testing to ensure they are safe for sensitive skin and non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores) before they are introduced to customers.

SEEN also performs testing to assess our products’ results on the most common hair and scalp concerns. From frizz and breakage to dry scalp, we don’t just say our products address these issues, we go for the proof that they work. (Check out all of the science behind SEEN here.)

SEEN avoids many common allergens
When developing SEEN products, Dr. Rubin reviews published research and reports on contact dermatitis, and consults with a contact dermatitis specialist about emerging allergens as well. All of SEEN’s final formulas are subjected to repeat insult patch testing (RIPT) in subjects with sensitive skin, and every product is available fragrance free for those who may be allergic to fragrance.

Respects the skin barrier
Protecting and enhancing the skin barrier is a priority for SEEN. This is why Dr. Rubin insists on replacing ingredients that are known to compromise the skin’s barrier function with gentle yet effective alternatives. When the skin barrier is able to do its job, it’s incredible to see the positive impact on the overall health, comfort, and appearance of the skin. And just like our haircare products, our skincare gets the job done without compromising the skin barrier.

Provides much-needed moisture
All hair types and textures require haircare that delivers hydration to the hair and scalp. However, some common hydrating ingredients found in haircare products have the potential to clog pores—and, in turn, lead to breakouts. SEEN has cracked the formulation code, and our products offer the extra moisture the hair needs without the potential pore-clogging ingredients that can contribute to acne.

The takeaway
By adhering to these formulation pillars, SEEN Epidermal Rebalancing Technology has been proven to deliver real hair and skin results that you can see and feel. The epidermis is the top layer of the skin and where the openings of the hair follicles reside (with the exception of the palms of the hands and soles of the feet). SEEN’s formulations are specifically designed to not clog pores (the openings in the skin where hair follicles live) and to not irritate or cause allergies in the skin surrounding the hair follicles. By rebalancing the epidermis, SEEN helps promote an environment where hair follicles are able to do their job of growing healthy hair, and scalp and skin health are optimized.

This is how SEEN is able to let our customers enjoy gorgeous hair without triggering breakouts, eczema, or sensitive skin flare-ups. And by creating an ideal scalp environment, SEEN sets the stage for healthy hair growth. In addition, SEEN Epidermal Rebalancing Technology helps deliver calm, happy skin from head to toe and a luxurious, effective haircare experience. What more could you ask for?
