The facts you need to know about frizz

The facts you need to know about frizz

The struggle with frizz is real—and several factors come into play. Although you may be focused on hair that looks fluffy and frazzled after styling or the second you walk outside, the main causes of frizz include the current state of your strands, the environment around you, and your DNA.

Dry hair: Simply put, dry hair is thirsty hair, and it’s going to try to get much-needed moisture any chance it gets. When dry hair absorbs water from the air around you, the hairs’ outermost layer (the cuticle) swells instead of lying flat and leads to the unwanted expansion associated with frizz.

To prevent frizz caused by dry hair, a hydrating hair care regimen that includes shampoo, conditioner, and styling products is the perfect place to start—but all hydrating ingredients are not created equal, and many can have unwanted side effects on the skin. Some products and ingredients (such as polymers, heavy oils, and waxes) may be designed to add moisture to the hair and smooth frizz, but they can clog the pores as well.

Harvard-trained dermatologist Dr. Iris Rubin created SEEN because the products you use on your hair have a direct impact on the health of the skin. SEEN is formulated with ingredients that restore hair moisture without clogging pores or irritating the skin, which means you can have smooth, manageable hair and healthy skin.

Damaged hair: The signs of damaged hair can be obvious… The hair feels rough and brittle, is likely uneven due to split ends and breakage, and it just looks dull and drab. Damaged hair requires special care in the form of hair care designed to smooth the cuticle while offering protection from heat styling and UV rays. SEEN styling cremes are formulated to do just this—without any unwanted skin side effects.

Humidity: Nothing ruins a good hair day like humidity, but you can stop its effects before they start with the right hair care routine. All of SEEN’s products are formulated with hemisqualane, a non-comedogenic, lightweight, natural alternative to silicone that seals the cuticles to prevent moisture from penetrating the strand and ruining your blow-out. In fact, SEEN is proven to reduce frizz by 74% when used as a regimen—and a 65% reduction in frizz is still visible eight hours later.[1]

Texture: Whether naturally straight, wavy, or curly (or you style your natural texture to be another one of the above), frizz doesn’t discriminate. However, the curlier the hair, the more difficult it is to get all of the strands to align in the same direction, and when they don’t, frizz is bound to result. Since blown-out and curly hair have unique needs when it comes to minimizing frizz, SEEN offers styling creme options for both (and they’re also available fragrance-free).

SEEN’s latest innovation:

Magic Serum

SEEN Magic Serum

SEEN is thrilled to announce the latest addition to our non-comedogenic, non-irritating hair care family, SEEN Magic Serum! Designed to reduce frizz, enhance shine, nourish, strengthen, and provide protection against heat styling and breakage, it transforms your strands into smoother, shinier, healthier-looking hair in just seconds. With a clean, fragrance-free formula that features hemisqualane and squalane for optimal smoothness and moisture, SEEN Magic Serum can be used before styling (and mixed in with your SEEN styling creme of choice) or afterwards as a frizz-fighting finishing touch—and a SEEN clinical study found that it reduces breakage by 81% (vs. a control).[2]

Anti-frizz tips

  • Don’t rub wet hair with a towel—blot to remove excess water instead to prevent roughing up the cuticle
  • Detangle hair with a comb instead of a brush
  • Sleep on a silk pillowcase to reduce tension and friction on your hair overnight
